In just a decade, Dandelion Ranch has revolutionized the floral industry, bringing the disparate energies of conceptual art, sustainable design, Napa’s farm-to-table fine dining culture, vintage and exceptional vase selection, and their own radically experimental Los Angeles sensibility to an often overlooked art form. As Garden Design Magazine puts it, “with Dandelion Ranch, the outside is brought indoors, just the way it should be.”
The Ranch’s breathtaking and instantly recognizable work can be found everywhere from LA’s finest restaurants (Mozza, Lucques, the Patina Group, BLD, Ammo) to The Hammer Museum, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, NBC Universal International, and big city events including Alex’s Lemonade and Taste of the Nation, the ACE Awards, as well as at dozens of weddings and celebrity homes including those of Prince, Martin Short, Kate Spade, and Barbra Streisand.
Dandelion Ranch is the brainchild of Clover Chadwick, whose hippie upbringing in LA and Palm Springs gave her twin appreciations for the lush and the sparse. “As a kid in the desert, you witness the inherent drama in nature,” she says. “Competition for sunlight, the lines of movement, and accidental harmony are everywhere.” But it was in her twenties, studying agriculture in Napa and managing The French Laundry for legendary chef Thomas Keller, that Clover ultimately developed her aesthetic. “Working for Thomas, and for food writer Karen MacNeil, taught me about the value of pure ingredients at their peak readiness…and it taught me the power of juxtaposing those ingredients,” says Clover.
Today, Dandelion Ranch is a busy design studio, by appointment only, creating compositions that are both one-of-a-kind and tailored to the needs and tastes of each client. Services include vase selection, private party florals, tablescapes, landscape consultation, herb gardens, interior and exterior restaurant flowers, permanent installations, plant maintenance, holiday décor, classes, custom gifts, and more.
“You can’t outdo Mother Nature,” Clover says, explaining the basic Dandelion Ranch philosophy. “Every morning, we walk through the flower mart in search of the very best of what’s in season from local growers, for the work at hand. The flowers speak volumes.”
